Who was John Kerr?

John Kerr was the original name for the Medary Chapter NSDAR. This was chosen to honor Robert F. Kerr, a local college professor, who was the great-grandson of John Kerr, a Revolutionary War soldier. John Kerr was born about 1745 in Ireland. In 1765, he married Mary Daugherty. They immigrated to America, where, during the American Revolution, he served as a Private in Gregg's company in the Cumberland County militia, and as second Lieutenant under Captain James Young of the Eighth Battalion militia. He was taken prisoner at the Battle of Long Island but was exchanged after some time. John Kerr died on October 2, 1807, in Kerrsville, Franklin County, Pennsylvania.
